Telford is the largest town in the county of Shropshire, Although parts of Telford have a history that dates back as far as the 11th Century, it is only within the last 50-60 years that a majority of its development has occured.
The new town of Telford was established in the 1960's which combined the existing smaller towns and villages, such as Oakengates, Dawley, Donnington, Wellington and Ironbridge. New Industrial, Commercial and Residential areas have continually been built throughout the years to further add to Telfords size.

Many even invest in building their own stores from the ground up, the most recent being Tesco in Madeley and the still under construction Netto in Donnington. Telford's Shopping Centre is known for being the commercial and cultural heart of the town. The Shopping Centre was officially opened in 1973 and has under gone constant additions since, now housing over 175 stores and averaging 300,000 footfall per week.
As well as a growing corporate commercial sector Telfords small business owners and markets are always a pleasure to visit. Wellington contains one of Telfords most popular markets with over 100 stores open four days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Other weekly markets include Madeley, Dawley, Hadley.
Telford contains some fantastic attractions for both visitors and the community. Telford is known as the Birthplace of Industry therefore many of the attractions focus on the time of Industrial Revolution, Such as the Museum Of The Gorge and the Telford Steam Railway. Other exciting attractions in the area include the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford and The Oakengates Theatre.
